Week 0 - My first email from the Dominican Republic

[This is Elder Robertson's father. I will be updating his blog with his weekly letters and any other news we receive. Tyler left for his mission on Tuesday, June 21. He is reporting directly to the Missionary Training Center in the Dominican Republic. He had a long series of flights departing from Austin on Tuesday night arriving in Los Angeles. Then, from Los Angeles, he caught the red-eye overnight to New York where he met up with other missionaries and boarded a plane to the Dominican Republic on Wednesday morning. I'm sure he's exhausted. Anyway, now on to his letter...]

Just for fun I started a timer on one of my watches after I got through security and stopped it once I got to the MTC. So 20 Hours and 45 minutes later I am finally here!! The trip went super smoothly and it went by super fast so that is good!

The good news is I'm like the only person in my entire group of missionaries that speaks any Spanish at all. So I got elected to try to communicate with the representatives the church sent to pick us up. I actually did okay but I didn't understand a lot of what he was saying. The Spanish really is so fast here. Also I figured out a big reason we don't have cars while we are here, or bikes for that matter. The drivers here are CRAZY!! There are absolutely no rules or order to the road. Most of the time there are about 3 rows of cars in a 2 lane road.

The Elders and Sisters I came in with are awesome and all of us are already getting along well. I don't have a ton of time but I just wanted to tell all of y'all that I made it here safely and I love and miss you guys so much!!! My P days (yes, I get to call them that) are on Thursday starting next week. Time to get to work!!

Love,

Elder Robertson
